Our Comprehensive Contact Lens Services

We perform a thorough contact lens exam to assess your eye health, help you determine the right lens type for your needs, and secure a comfortable and safe fit. Our team will then, based on our wealth of experience, provide you with the best contact lenses for your unique needs and preferences.

As a bonus, we offer various contact lens brands and materials to help manage any particulars.

What to Expect During Your Contact Lens Exam

A contact lens exam is different from a standard eye exam. In addition to checking your vision and overall eye health, we focus on the specific measurements and assessments needed to find the best contact lenses for you.

We’ll evaluate your prescription to confirm that your contact lenses provide the correct level of vision correction, whether you’re nearsighted, farsighted, have astigmatism or presbyopia.

Healthy eyes are essential for successful contact lens wear. We’ll examine the surface of your eyes, including the cornea, to ensure no conditions might affect your ability to wear contact lenses comfortably.

With our technology, we’ll take precise measurements of your corneal curvature, pupil size, and other factors that influence the fit of your contact lenses. This step is crucial for checking that your lenses sit comfortably on your eyes and help provide optimal vision.

Your Contact Lens Fitting

The fitting process is key to checking that your contact lenses are comfortable and effective. At Daniel Island Eye Care, we take the time to find the right lenses for your unique eyes. Our process includes:

  • Trying different lenses
  • Evaluating the fit
  • Discussing your lifestyle needs
  • Providing care instructions

Our Specialty Contact Lenses

From daily wear to specialty contacts, Daniel Island Eye Care houses the largest contact lens inventory in South Carolina.

We carry top brands like Acuvue, Bausch + Lomb, CooperVision, and Alcon, which are known for their quality materials and innovative designs. Our team will help you choose the brand and type of lens that best suits your eyes, prescription, and lifestyle.

Scleral lenses are RGP lenses that sit on the sclera (white of your eyes), unlike traditional contacts that rest directly on your cornea.

Scleral contacts can be an excellent option for patients with trouble wearing contacts due to eye conditions like dry eye and keratoconus. They are wider than traditional lenses, vaulting over the cornea to create a fluid reservoir. Sclerals provide extra breathability, comfort, and hydration.

Toric lenses are designed specifically to correct astigmatism, often caused by an irregularly shaped cornea. These lenses contain different powers in different lens meridians to address the cornea’s uneven curvature.

Orthokeratology, or ortho-k, is a non-surgical procedure that uses specially designed contact lenses to gently reshape the curvature of the cornea. The temporary reshaping can provides an alternative way of correcting vision without needing glasses or traditional contact lenses during the day. They can also help reduce risk of eye infections, and slow myopia progression.

Multifocal contact lenses contain multiple prescriptions to correct multiple vision issues in one lens. They’re often recommended for those with presbyopia and other refractive errors, like hyperopia or myopia

With multiple prescriptions in a single lens, you can comfortably switch between activities, such as reading or driving, without changing your contacts.
